🚴 Why Choose the Extralite Extrabolt 12.1 Bolt Set?
The Extralite Extrabolt 12.1 is a set of four ultra-light aluminium bolts designed to shave weight where it makes sense.
Extralite has been manufacturing class-leading bicycle components since 1995, and their expertise in precision aluminium machining is evident in every detail of this bolt set. Engineered for precision and minimal mass, and CNC-machined from high-grade AL 7075 T6 aluminium with rolled threads and a hollow stem, each bolt weighs just 0.875g.
The flat “drop” head design allows the bolts to sit flush when used for bottle cage mounts, GoPro holders and rear derailleur pulley wheels. Rolled threads improve strength and thread engagement, while the hollow body removes unnecessary material without compromising fit.
This is not a universal bolt set... and that’s the point. Extralite is very clear: these bolts should only be used in non-safety-critical locations. Used correctly, they’re a smart way to fine-tune a high-end build and remove grams where they won’t bite you later.
If you’re the kind of rider who notices (and cares!) when a build is 30 grams lighter, the Extrabolt 12.1 bolt kit makes sense.

Pro Bike Mechanic’s Tip
Always grease the threads and head base area before installation. Start aluminium bolts by hand to avoid cross-threading, then torque to 2.5-3 Nm using a T20 Torx wrench. Check bolt torque after your first ride, then periodically. If you're unsure whether an application is load-bearing, it probably is — when in doubt, don't use aluminium bolts there.
🚀 Ready to Ride?

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where can I safely use Extrabolt 12.1 bolts?
A: Bottle cage mounts, GoPro holders and rear derailleur pulley wheels (with compatibility checks). They are not for safety-critical applications.
Q: Can I use these on SRAM Red derailleurs?
A: Not for the upper pulley position on SRAM Red. Always check compatibility before installation.
Q: What's the weight difference compared to standard steel bolts?
A: Standard M5 steel bolts weigh approximately 2-3g each. The Extrabolt 12.1 saves roughly 1-2g per bolt, or 4-8g for a full set of four, leading to meaningful savings in non-structural applications.
Q: Are aluminium bolts safe to use on my bike?
A: Yes, when used only in non safety-critical locations and installed correctly. They should never replace high-load structural fasteners.
