White Industries ZS44/EC44 Headset Black 1-1/8" to 1-1/2" Tapered Black

A zero stack, external cup headset with replaceable stainless steel bearings, machined in California. Your headset takes a beating from every bump, corner and wet ride, so it's worth getting a good one.

Why Choose a White Industries ZS44/EC44 Headset?

The White Industries ZS44/EC44 Headset fits frames with a straight 44mm head tube and forks with a 1-1/8" to 1-1/2" tapered steerer. It pairs stainless steel angular contact bearings with machined aluminium cups, and comes with a 40mm crown race.

🚴 Why You'll Love This White Industries Headset

Every White Industries headset is machined from US-sourced 6061-T6 aluminium in their Petaluma, California workshop. The ZS44/EC44 contains Enduro stainless steel angular contact bearings, which resist corrosion and give smooth, consistent steering. The bearings are easily replaceable, so a worn headset means a new set of bearings rather than a whole new headset.

The split crown race goes on and comes off without special tools, which makes installation and servicing much easier. With a stack height of only 8mm on top and 12mm on the bottom, it's compact and tidy for a sleek look.

This is a headset that will keep you rolling for years.

Features

  • Replaceable stainless steel bearings: Enduro angular contact bearings for smooth steering and a long service life
  • Zero stack top, external cup bottom: For straight 44mm head tubes
  • Split crown race: Tool-free installation and removal
  • Compact stack height: 8mm upper, 12mm lower
  • Machined 6061-T6 aluminium: Logos machine-engraved, in black
  • Made in the USA: Machined in Petaluma, California

Pro Bike Mechanic's Tip

Check your frame and fork before you order. This headset needs a straight 44mm head tube (the inside diameter should be 43.95-44mm) and a tapered fork steerer, 1-1/8" at the top and 1-1/2" at the bottom, which uses the 40mm crown race supplied. The cups need to be pressed in with a headset press, so don't try to tap them in.

p.s. A star nut isn't included, so have one ready.

FAQs

What does ZS44/EC44 mean?
It's the SHIS code for the headset. "ZS44" means zero stack, with the top cup sitting inside a 44mm head tube. "EC44" means external cup, with the bottom cup sitting outside a 44mm head tube.

Will it fit my bike?
It fits frames with a straight 44mm head tube. If your frame has a tapered head tube, or an integrated headset with a different SHIS code, it won't fit. Check your frame's spec sheet, or get in touch and we'll help.

Which crown race do I need?
This headset comes with a 40mm crown race, which suits a tapered steerer that's 1-1/8" at the top and 1-1/2" at the bottom. If your fork has a different steerer, such as a straight 1-1/8" or a 1-1/4" taper, email us. White Industries make other crown race sizes and we can arrange them.

What tools do I need?
A headset press for the cups. The split crown race fits and comes off without special tools.

Does it come with a star nut?
No. A star nut isn't included, so you'll need one if your fork has an aluminium or steel steerer. Carbon steerers use an expansion plug instead. If you're not sure what your fork needs, get in touch and we'll help.

Can I replace the bearings?
Yes. That's a big part of the appeal. The bearings are replaceable, so a worn headset doesn't mean replacing the cups.

Can I get a different colour or crown race?
Yes. White Industries makes this headset in a wide range of models. Email us and we'll arrange a special order.
