White Industries CLD Rear Hub 12x142mm Thru Axle 28H Shimano HG 11 Speed Black
Made by hand in California and refined over 30 years, the White Industries CLD Rear Hub is the reliable, lightweight hub you build a wheelset around. Smooth, serviceable and good-looking, it's the easy choice for road, gravel, mountain and touring bikes.
Why Choose a White Industries CLD Rear Hub?
The White Industries CLD Rear Hub is a Center Lock disc rear hub built for riders who want light weight without sacrificing durability. This version is drilled for 28 spokes, runs a 12x142mm thru axle, and comes with a Shimano HG freehub body for 11-speed Hyperglide cassettes, finished in black. (Running SRAM XDR? We can convert this hub in our workshop. Just drop us a line when you order.)

🚴 Why Choose White Industries' CLD Rear Hub?
Every White Industries hub is machined, assembled and inspected in their Petaluma, California workshop. The CLD traces its heritage back to the original White Industries titanium cassette hub from 1992, and three decades of real-world riding have refined it into a component engineered for long-lasting dependability.
A heat-treated 4130 steel axle runs through the 6061-T6 aluminium shell, supported by four Enduro sealed cartridge bearings — two in the shell and two in the 6Al-4V titanium freehub body. The smooth-rolling result gives you efficient power transfer, not to mention bearings that shrug off the weather.
The CLD hub is also built to be simple to maintain. Bearing preload is adjustable, the freehub body is easy to pull apart and re-grease, and the whole hub can be serviced without special tools. This philosophy is the difference between a hub you replace and a hub you can keep riding for decades.
The Center Lock (or centre lock, for those of us not in the US) rotor interface makes disc changes quick and secure, and the polished-then-anodised finish with machine-engraved logos looks as good as it rides. Whether you're racing gravel, exploring trails or loading up for a long tour, the CLD is a hub you can trust.
Features
- Center Lock disc mount: Fast, secure rotor installation on the Shimano Center Lock standard
- Titanium freehub body: 6Al-4V titanium resists cassette bite-in and keeps weight down
- Four Enduro sealed bearings: Smooth rolling with a long service life
- 48-point engagement: 7.5 degrees between engagement points for quick pick-up
- Adjustable preload: Fine-tune the bearings and rebuild the hub as needed
- Made in the USA: CNC-machined, assembled and inspected in Petaluma, California
Pro Bike Mechanic's Tip
The CLD doesn't include a rotor lockring, and not every lockring works on a rear hub. Use an internally splined lockring such as the White Industries Center Lock lockring or an externally splined one. SRAM internally splined lockrings do not work with rear CLD hubs. Also, check your cassette: 11-speed Shimano mountain cassettes need a spacer, which isn't included with the HG freehub body.

FAQs
Does the CLD rear hub come with a lockring?
No. Center Lock rotors need a lockring, which is sold separately. We stock White Industries Center Lock lockrings, so you can add one to your order.
Can you convert it to SRAM XDR?
Yes. We can swap this hub to a SRAM XDR freehub body in our workshop. Email us before ordering and we'll sort it.
Will it fit my bike?
This version suits 142mm rear spacing with a 12mm thru axle, which covers most modern road, gravel and mountain bikes with standard (non-Boost) spacing. If your frame is Boost (148mm), you'll want the CLD+ instead.
Can I run it with a quick release axle?
Yes, the hub can use a 10mm x 135mm QR axle, but you'll need to buy a separate axle kit to swap.
CLD or XMR: which is better?
Neither. They share the same internals. The difference is the rotor mount: Center Lock on the CLD, 6-bolt on the XMR. The XMR also has larger flanges with window cut-outs, if you prefer that look.
How often should I service it?
Check the bearings monthly by spinning the axle and feeling for roughness, and open the freehub body to clean and re-grease it at least once a year (more often in wet or dusty conditions). It doesn't need special tools.
Can I get a different colour or spoke count?
Yes, you can. Email info@bmcr.com.au and we'll arrange a special order.
